Eye Donation

Who Can Donate?

Who Can Donate? Any person from age 2-75.

A person may be eligible to donate if they do not have any of the following contraindications. *

1. Infectious or potentially infectious disease.
(ie. HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, C or active Hepatitis A, Septicemia)

2. Central Nervous System disorders of unknown etiology.
(ie. Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, Alzheimers, Parkinson's Disease)

3. Leukemia, Lymphoma, Lymphosarcoma, Hodgkin’s Disease.
(most other types of cancer are acceptable for donation)

4. Certain Eye Disorders.
(ie. Eye infection, Corneal scarring, history of refractive surgery (ie. Lasik), congenital eye disorders)

How to Register as a Donor

If you want to register as an organ donor call the BC Transplant Society at 604.877.2240. You can also register on line. The Web site is www.transplant.bc.ca

Most importantly let your family know what your wishes are with respect to eye/organ donation.
